December 2021
Following a visit by WNC and a visit from the EA, the following work was undertaken:
- WNC undertook desilting works around the three bridges (Patricks Lane and Buckingham Road area) where they are the riparian owners. Silt was left on the banks to drain prior to being removed for disposal. There were, however, some issues identified that were not dealt with at the time and some further works will be needed in 2022. Special equipment is apparently needed to suck out the silt from under the Patrick's lane bridge because it is classed as a confined space and some further work was identified such as 'scouring' under the outlets from the overflow channel. DPC will push for these works to be scheduled in and undertaken. Some of the works identified such as heavy silting where the natural course of the Brook separates from the overflow channel will not be undertaken by WNC as they say they are not responsible/not the riparian owner.
- The EA visited Thursday 2nd December to view the Brook and its course into and out of the village and to advise on potential measures to reduce the flood risk within the village itself. It was an extensive visit looking at upstream and downstream flood management ideas as well as the specific areas affected in December 2020. DPC will continue to work with the EA to establish what projects can be undertaken to improve the community's resilience to flooding.
- There remains heavy silting on parts of the Brook outside Patricks Lane which, it is now established, is not the responsibility of WNC. It is the responsibility of the landowner and DPC has established these details through Land Registry and will contact the landowners regarding further de-silting work. There is a log-stop on one channel that is in poor repair and the advice is to reinstate this as well as work to retain the banks such as willow spiling or the use of coir logs to provide stability.
The Parish Council have continued to push the local authorities for flood reports which will detail what works can be undertaken to improve the community's resilience to flooding. for more information please see the LEN's & Pathfinder links
February 2024
West Northants Council dug out the accumulated mud that had arisen on the bend in the brook, this allowed the water to flow around the bend rather than straight through the old dam.
The dam will be relaced later in the year.
March 2024
A working party on volunteers helped clear the brook.
Flood Store
Deanshanger Parish Council have funded a flood store which will be used by Flood Wardens and volunteers in case of a flood.
This will enable wardens & volunteers to be better equipped to help residents during a flood.
